Drs. Alison Flatau and Ray Sedwick of the Department of Aerospace Engineering faculty and Dr. Peter Sunderland of Fire Protection have been advanced to Associate Fellows in their membership to AIAA.

According to the AIAA website, "associate fellow candidates shall be persons who have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or who have done work of outstanding merit or have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics." Nominees are AIAA Senior Members and have at least twelve years of professional experience.

Dr. Flatau has recently been appointed as the Clark School?s interim associate dean of research and was the 2009 Faculty Service Award recipient for her involvement and support of undergraduate aerospace student organizations. Dr. Raymond Sedwick was awarded the NSF career award earlier this year and is currently the faculty advisor for the Maryland student chapter of AIAA. Both Flatau and Sedwick have illustrated their dedication to the aerospace profession through their professional and academic service.
